This website uses the base information derived from Mildred E. Dooner’s book – The Last Post being a Roll of all Officers who gave their lives in the South African war 1899- 1902. The National Monuments Council – Victims of Conflict records were compared to those recorded in Steve Watt’s book In Memoriam, and the search began. The result is a pictorial record of what was found.
“It occurred to me that the names of those officers who had lost their lives in the war should not be allowed to fade into oblivion, and that there should be some more fitting memorial of them than the bare mention of their names in the official casualty list”.
